Boeing 787 vs Airbus 380
Boeing Co. unveiled its first fully assembled 787 jet yesterday. The plane is set to enter commercial service next May after Japan’s All Nippon Airways receives the first of the 50 Dreamliners it has ordered.
It seems to me the British Airbus and American Boeing bear a different philosophy on how the future of aviation would be like. Whilst Airbus sees the giant A380 as the future of aviation, responding to airline calls for a bigger plane to meet increasing passenger numbers flying between major hubs, Boeing predicts that the future growth sector will be for additional medium-sized planes that can service more of the smaller airports that cannot handle the A380. It was for this reason, Boeing has developed the 787 Dreamliner, a new medium-sized plane, instead of a much bigger jet than their 747 or 777. What-fucking-ever…
I hope Boeing keeps up with the schedule, unlike Airbus who screwed up big time with its delivery. If all goes well, we’ll see Singapore Airline flying A380 layer this year, and hopefully, All Nippon Airways with its Boeing 787 in May 08.
