Iran president was in Columbia University campus

I don’t get it why Columbia University had to invite Mahmoud Ahmadinejad there at the first place if all the university president and most Americans did were insulting and abusing the poor guy all the way through his speech.

Ahmadinejad appearance was full load of controversies, and Lee Bollinger, the University president defended the university’s invitation, saying it was a question of free speech and academic freedom.

Ahmadinejad received a hostile welcome from Bollinger, who described the Iranian leader as “a petty and cruel dictator”. “You are either brazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated,” Bollinger told Ahmadinejad. Despite being slurred non stop, on its nuke pursuit, Ahmadinejad went on with his I-don’t-give-a-fuck response, defended Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and said it had every right to pursue a peaceful program, despite the accusation of Iran arming insurgents in Iraq.

I think the whole idea of inviting him was not really about freedom of speech crap – i doubt. It was about some goons out there at the university who was trying to make an early preparation for Christmas. Those bastards just wanted to make money. Ahmadinejad invitation was so popular and the event was not FREE! They were selling ticket for this event. Crowds flocked to a large screen set up on university grounds, and tickets to the actual event were quickly snapped up.
