Expansion of Grand Mosque, Makkah
King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has approved the an expansion project for the northern part of the Grand Mosque in Makkah. The project includes additions to the northern portion of the Grand Mosque complex as well as pedestrian tunnels and a service station.
The expansion was reported to be able to accommodate at least 250,000 more worshipers, giving a total capacity of the Grand Mosque of 750,000.
The market price per square meter of real estate required for the new expansion project of the Grand Mosque in Makkah is estimated at SR250,000.
